Stage 1 · Request to Participate

New Project Application

Submit a formal request to the Minister to participate in the carbon market. The Minister decides within 21 working days of receipt.

Only verifiers registered with the Commissioner for Climate Change may validate projects. Registration requires proof of accreditation under a recognised standard plus the registration fee. The Commissioner decides within 21 working days.

Cancellation / Retirement

Cancel certified emission reductions

Cancellation is permanent. Cancelled units are retired from the register and can never be transferred or used again.
The cancellation is recorded in the register and the audit trail, and reflected in national reporting.

Paris Agreement · Article 6.2

Cooperative Approaches

Uganda partners with other Parties under Article 6.2 of the Paris Agreement to transfer internationally transferred mitigation outcomes (ITMOs). Each cooperative approach is governed by a bilateral agreement and subject to corresponding adjustments to avoid double counting.

How corresponding adjustments work

When ITMOs are authorised for use towards another country's NDC, Uganda applies a corresponding adjustment of 10% to its national greenhouse-gas accounting. This ensures each tonne of emission reduction is counted only once across the two Parties, in line with the Article 6.2 guidance.
